I am appalled by the use of $2,000,000 USAid money for the purpose of illegally attempting to but the recent elections in Palestine (see "U.S. Funds Enter Fray In Palestinian Elections" by Scott Wilson and Glenn Kessler Washington Post Foreign Service Sunday, January 22, 2006; Page A01). As one of the most influential democratic nations we should support free and fair elections not try to instill governments through them. Not only that, but all that has now been accomplished is an increase in support for Hamas and hatred of the United States of America
Furthermore, this event also adds to the overwhelming problems with USAid and its constant contribution to economics disparity through food dumping (I speak only in relation to non-emergency food relief) and tied aid (E.G. requiring the acceptance of GMO products in order to receive AIDS aid). Using money to cause political instability in an already volatile nation pushes USAid to a whole new plateau of wrongdoing. I ask you to do what you can to divert USAid's funding to more trustworthy organizations such as UNHDP. I further implore you to publicly denounce this dangerous act of the Bush administration.
Respectfully Yours,
Cedar Attanasio
